David C. Korten: writer, thinker, and social critic, writes and speaks about ways in which we could transform our societies and institutions to make them truly community-based, sustainable, and just. In eleven books, innumerable articles and frequent interpersonal discourse, he presents positive and attainable alternatives to our country’s current stratagems that would preserve rather than exploit the world’s natural resources, and would empower rather than suppress its peoples.

David’s understanding of our social, economic and political systems has evolved from fi rsthand observation of how poverty in the Third World has been worsening, how indigenous cultures are being lost, how the environment is being sacrificed, and how the division between the “haves” and “have nots” is ever widening. What he offers us in response are ways in which we can effect a meaningful change in our lives and our society. His greatest accomplishment is his ability to inspire others to hold a vision of hope in the face of ongoing threats to real democracy.
