George Lewis: quiet, pacifistic, philosophical, dreamy; David Lewis: noisy, scrappy, energetic, pragmatic. Both are skilled craftsmen and wonderful artists, and together they create garden art, sculpture, architectural elements, and installations. Married in 2013, they are constantly moving forward, pushing boundaries, stretching and challenging our imaginations. Two decades ago they were challenging our ideas about what a garden could be and what kind of artful elements could be incorporated in it. Their inspiration for a large, diverse body of work has evolved from a mutual love of lush, exotic plants, ancient architecture, and color. Subtle or brilliant, color is an important component in every piece of their work.

Their 2005 book, A Garden Gallery, provides another example of their extraordinary collaboration with its rich blending of the authors‘ two distinct voices. They offer practical advice along with philosophical reflection on how anyone can turn bare ground into a magical composition of nature and art. Just as their work blurs the boundaries between sculpture, architecture, and nature so their very lives blend art, gardens, and community into one continuous whole.
