Paul Lewis is a gifted playwright, musician, lyricist, and composer. After moving to the Island in the mid 80s, Paul continued as musician and physician until 2013, when he decided to devote himself full time to his creative passion. He approaches his work with intelligence, sensitivity and humility, and everything he does conveys his tender compassion for the human condition.

In 2002 Island Theatre produced Paul’s play, Recollection of Flight, which Paul not only wrote, but composed and accompanied on the piano. Since then he has produced more musicals, a children’s opera, a choral requiem, and both full-length and one-act plays.

Recent productions of Paul’s plays include Caps for Sale, A Musical (Boston Children’s Theatre), Oblivion (Driftwood Players), and The Hours of Life, A Musical (Theatre22). His one-act pieces have been staged across the country, and he has submitted plays for each of the first five years of Island Theatre’s Ten-Minute Play Festival. One of his plays has been featured every year. Other Bainbridge Island productions include Hail and Reign, a musical produced at Bainbridge Performing Arts in 2008, and Last Poem on Earth: A Jazz Requiem, an 80-minute piece in which the poems of a dozen Northwest writers were set to music and performed by the Bainbridge Chorale, a children’s choir, and a chamber orchestra.

A talented playwright and composer, Paul represents the best of Bainbridge Island: a wealth of creativity balanced by a genuine commitment to the well being of the community.
