Island Treasure 2016

At first glance, Cameron Snow might not look like an intrepid explorer, prepared to leave at a moment’s notice for some unfamiliar part of the globe. One might more easily imagine her painting botanicals in a sunlit garden or perhaps helping an arts organization acquire items for an auction. In fact, she has done all of these things with equal spirit and grace.

When Cameron married Chris Snow after college, they set off for Pakistan, Chris’s first post in the Foreign Service. Cameron had studied art at Mills College and initially painted abstracts. Her art changed along with her experience of living in different countries. When the Snows moved to Bainbridge in 1998, Cameron brought with her not only the different artistic skills she had honed over 36 years in nine different countries, but also the self-confidence and willingness to take on new challenges. She began to produce videos, using borrowed equipment and teaching herself to edit.

The Return of the Plankton in 2004, an exploration of Puget Sound marine life, was Cameron’s first substantial film, followed by Forest in the City about the Grand Forest, several profiles of local artists and, most recently, a three-part series on the geological formation of Bainbridge Island. Meanwhile, she continues to produce exquisite botanicals and landscapes in paint, pencil, pastel, and porcelain.
